WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING APPOINTMENT

You’re engaged! One of the MOST exciting moments in life! After all the hugs, tears, well-wishes and congratulations, what is the first question your friends and family ask? “What are you going to WEAR?!”

We’re going to assume you made your appointment, either online or by phone at the shop of your choice. While some stores welcome drop-in brides (we do!), many bridal stores are appointment only.

Our goal is always to provide you, the bride, with the best experience. Wedding dress shopping should be a fun and enjoyable moment. You’re shopping for one of the most important dresses you’ll ever wear!

Here are a few things you should expect at your wedding dress shopping appointment:

  • You’ll be asked your wedding date, venue and style of wedding. These questions are not to be nosy, but to give your stylist more insight into your own personal style. Also, knowing your wedding date helps us determine if certain gowns and designers can deliver dresses in time.

  • You should be open to trying on different silhouettes, from ballgowns, mermaid gowns, fit and flare and fitted. You may not like them all, but you want to know that you at least tried them on. If only to eliminate them.

  • Don’t be shy! You’ll probably need some help getting in and out of the dresses. Your stylist is there to assist you, so if you’re modest, wear undergarments that provide you some coverage. If you are truly uncomfortable with a stranger in the dressing room, let the stylist know and perhaps a family member can assist you.

  • Taking photos of bridal gowns. This is a super touchy subject amongst bridal stores. Some stores are totally fine with that (we are!) and some will absolutely not let a camera or phone near their gowns. It helps to ask first and respect the store’s policy.

  • Let your stylist help you pull gowns to try on. We can walk you through our selection and help you choose the ones to try on. We don’t want to give you a dress that we know may not be the right fit/size or not available for your wedding date.

  • Even though this many be your FIRST time wedding dress shopping, be prepared for the unexpected! You may just find YOUR. DRESS! Embrace the moment and don’t be afraid to SAY YES TO THE DRESS!

There’s always more to share, so we’ll be back next week with more bridal and dress tips!

    Happy Wedding Planning!
